Upper Strings - Levels 1, 2 and 3

Suhashini Arulanandam

For over 25 years, violinist Suhashini Arulanandam has led a full and varied musical life as a performer and
educator. Her explorations and studies have included tango, free improvisation, new music, historically
informed performance/Baroque violin, and folk music traditions. She has performed classical chamber music
on a Pirate Ship near Centre Island, as well as contemporary tango in Buenos Aires, at the Canadian Embassy
to Argentina and Paraguay. She performed on the album DISTANCIA, which was recently nominated for two
Canadian Folk Music awards, including "Best Instrumental Group of the Year". She can also be heard on the
album Hymns of Heaven and Earth featuring music of Peter Togni, the Aradia Ensemble's Juno-nominated
album Vivaldi: Sacred Music, Vol. IV , Sarah Slean's Metaphysics, and Tapestry Opera's Rocking Horse
Winner.

A longtime member of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra and Windsor Symphony Orchestra, Suhashini has
also performed with the Spoleto Festival Orchestral, Esprit Orchestra, Ensemble Obiora, Kitchener-Waterloo
Symphony, Thin Edge New Music Collective, Arraymusic, Soundstreams, and the Aradia Ensemble.

Suhashini has co-commissioned and premiered numerous works for instrumental duo including
Ukrainian-Canadian composer Anna Pidgorna's "Through Closed Doors" for two violins, and "Strophes and
Hijinx" by Diana Rosenblum for violin and marimba. This summer, as violinist of the Tadioli Duo, she will
premiere a work by Argentinian composer Adriana Isabel Figueroa MaƱas, with cellist Sybil Shanahan.

Suhashini is on faculty at the Royal Conservatory of Music's Oscar Peterson Program and Oscar Peterson
School. She is a Licensure Trainee with the Association for Body Mapping Education, and is currently pursuing
a 5+ year program in Manual Osteopathy while maintaining her music career. She very much wishes she could
sit down for a chat with the late medical doctor/violin pedagogue Demitrios Dounis.
