Canadian violist Meagan Turner is in demand as a performer throughout North America and Australia. A dedicated chamber musician, she has appeared at the Ravinia Festival (Steans Music Institute), Tippet Rise Arts Centre, the Toronto Summer Music Festival, the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, the Luminato Festival, the Mackay Chamber Music Festival, Bangalow Festival, and Musica Viva's Morning Masters series. Additionally, Meagan performs with the Alma Moodie Quartet, and will serve as guest violist for the latter half of the Affinity Quartet's 2024 season. She has performed as guest principal violist with Sydney's Omega Ensemble and with the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players and Shattered Glass (NYC). In addition, Meagan has served as principal violist of the New York String Orchestra Seminar, the Spoleto Festival Orchestra, and the Tanglewood Music Centre Orchestra. She regularly performs with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Meagan is the recipient of numerous awards, including Canada's "Hottest Musicians Under 30"
(Canadian Broadcasting Company, 2019). Additionally, she was chosen as a recipient of a Rachel Elizabeth Barton Pine Foundation Career Grant – an award intended for the advancement of young artists' performance careers – and is a past scholar and grant recipient of the Virtu Foundation. From 2018-2020, Meagan held a young artist in residence position at Carnegie Hall (Ensemble Connect), a residency designed to prepare extraordinary young classical musicians for careers combining musical excellence, teaching, community engagement, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership. During her time with Ensemble Connect, Meagan worked closely with Carnegie Executive and Artistic Director Clive Gillinson in a performance and workshop series at Sing Sing Correctional Institute in conjunction with Carnegie's Musical Connections Program.
Meagan received her Bachelor's (violin) and Performance Certificate (viola) from the University of Toronto under the tutelage of Eric Nowlin and Erika Raum, and her Master's degree from The Juilliard School as a full-scholarship student (Felix Galimir Scholarship and Irene Diamond Graduate Fellowship) of Samuel Rhodes. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Michigan State University, working as Eric Nowlin's Teaching Assistant. Meagan plays a viola by Giovanni Pistucci, on private loan.
