Sarah Yusha Tan is a Guzheng performer and tutor based in Vancouver. She received her Bachelor's degree in Zheng performance from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Her exceptional talent was recognized at an early stage when she won the silver medal in the Asian Youth Music Competition in Singapore. 

 

Since moving to Canada, Sarah’s musical journey has been dedicated to exploring the fusion of traditional folk music with intercultural music. She is a prominent member of several ensembles, including the B.C. Chinese Music Ensemble, the Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble, and the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra. 

 

Throughout her career, Sarah has been a sought-after performer, showcasing her artistry at major concerts and festivals .Her innovative performances, including the premieres of new compositions by contemporary composers, have earned her critical acclaim. In addition, her recorded album Jasmine Jazz was honored with the Western Canadian Music Award for Instrumental Artist of the Year. 

 

Sarah is also a regarded educator, she is frequently invited to serve as an adjudicator for guzheng competitions and has received multiple “Outstanding Instructor” awards. And her students have achieved remarkable success in both national and international competitions.
