
Sophie Lanthier is a Canadian flutist and educator based in Toronto, Ontario. An active orchestral, chamber, and solo performer, she is deeply committed to promoting and expanding the contemporary flute repertoire.
Lanthier has performed extensively across Southern Ontario with ensembles including the Ontario Philharmonic, Canadian Opera Company, Niagara Symphony Orchestra, Urban Orchestra, and Casa Loma Symphony. As a soloist, she has appeared with orchestras across Canada and the United States. Featured performances include Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G major, K. 313 with the Northwestern University Campus Philharmonic (2019); François Borne’s Fantaisie brillante sur Carmen with the Oakville Symphony Orchestra (2024); Vivaldi’s Piccolo Concerto in C major, RV 443 with the Ontario Philharmonic (2025); and Vivian Fung’s Flute Concerto, Storm Within with the University of Toronto Contemporary Music Ensemble (2026).
A dedicated advocate for contemporary music, Lanthier performs regularly with New Music Concerts. She is a member of the Association of Canadian Women Composers and a founding member of inVENT, a wind trio with clarinetist Marc Blouin and bassoonist Kevin Harris.
As an educator, Lanthier is a flute instructor at Wilfrid Laurier University and coaches chamber music at the University of Toronto, while maintaining a thriving private studio in Toronto. She regularly works with the Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra as a flute coach and audition adjudicator.
Lanthier is currently completing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Flute Performance at the University of Toronto. She holds degrees from Northwestern University, the Glenn Gould School, and the University of Toronto, and her principal teachers include Leslie Newman, John Thorne, Jennifer Gunn, Alyce Johnson, Susan Hoeppner, and Nora Shulman.
