Adjudicator: Kenneth Kwan
Kenneth Kwan, a native of Hong Kong, began studying the violin at the age of seven. At twelve, he was accepted into the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy, where he continued his musical training. He went on to earn a
Bachelor of Music from the Peabody Institute and a Master of Music from McGill University. During his studies at McGill, he was a recipient of the Robert H. P. Fung Scholarship. His principal teachers have included Dennis
Kim, Denise Lupien, and Violaine Melançon.
Kenneth joined the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony as a full-time member in 2019. In addition to his orchestral work, he maintains an active freelance career and has performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Hamilton
Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Toronto Concert Orchestra.
As an educator, Kenneth serves on the faculty of the Laurier Academy of Music and Arts while maintaining a thriving private studio. His students have earned numerous awards at the Kiwanis Music Festival and consistently achieve First Class Honours with Distinction in their examinations through The Royal Conservatory of Music. Kenneth is also the conductor of the Preludium String Youth Orchestra in Kitchener, where he is dedicated to inspiring and
mentoring the next generation of young musicians.
