Robert Markus is an award-winning actor, singer, and educator based in Stratford, Ontario. He is best known for his acclaimed portrayal of Evan Hansen in Dear Evan Hansen (Mirvish Productions/Stacey Mindich), for which he received a Toronto Theatre Critics Award and a Dora Mavor Moore Award nomination.
Most recently, Robert played the titular role in Jesus Christ Superstar (Drayton Entertainment). At the Stratford Festival, he has appeared in celebrated productions including The Who’s Tommy (title role, dir. Des McAnuff), The Rocky Horror Show (Riff Raff – BroadwayWorld Toronto Award, Best Featured Actor), Chicago, The Music Man, and Fiddler on the Roof.
Other notable credits include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Theatre Aquarius), Next to Normal(Theatre Calgary/Citadel Theatre), Jesus Christ Superstar (Mayfield Theatre), Dream a Little Dream (Grand Theatre), and Chicago (Drayton Entertainment). He has also performed with The Shaw Festival, Young People’s Theatre, Ross Petty Productions, The Musical Stage Company, Catalyst Theatre, and the Niagara Symphony Orchestra.
Robert’s work has been recognized with nominations from the Dora Mavor Moore, BroadwayWorld, Sterling, Betty Mitchell, Calgary Critics, and My Entertainment World Awards, underscoring his reputation as a versatile and respected artist across the country.
As an educator, Robert brings a wealth of professional experience to his work as a vocal coach and performance instructor, specializing in acting through song, vocal technique, and contemporary musical theatre performance. He has taught in the Sheridan College Musical Theatre program for the past two years and has run his own successful private studio for over five. His students have gone on to perform with the Stratford Festival, Shaw Festival, Mirvish Productions, and on stages across Canada.
