Volunteers are an important part of the Provincials. We will be requiring volunteers for the 2020 Provincials, happening in Niagara Falls from June 8 to June 13, 2020. Volunteer shifts run in two shifts: 8:30 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
We need volunteers for the following roles:
This person checks in festival participants and sells tickets, programs, water, etc. You will be given a cash box, a sufficient supply of programs, a small sign with prices as well as an information sheet to assist you in answering questions regarding the location of practice rooms, washrooms, water fountain, water and beverage machines etc. You will also be responsible for getting the music from the competitors and delivering it to the Adjudicator’s Assistant in the performance hall.
This person works directly with the adjudicator and ensures that they have everything that is needed – adjudicator sheets, competitor music, timing of individual performances, etc.
Some of the adjudicators will require transportation between venues or between their lodging and the venues. If you have access to a vehicle and know the Hamilton area, this may be the role for you! Volunteers who are interested in this position will need to show that they have a valid driver’s license.
What are the benefits of volunteering?
For people who are in the host city for Provincials, it is an opportunity to promote your hometown and offer unique insights to competitors, parents, and teachers who will be visiting your area. You will also be able to lend support to the performers who are from the Hamilton area.
For Festival Administrators, it’s not only a chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at everything that goes into putting on a successful Provincials competition, it’s a chance to see your competitors shine at the next level of competition. It’s also an amazing networking experience where you can meet with other administrators from across the province and exchange insights and knowledge.
For those interested in becoming adjudicators for Ontario’s festivals, volunteering at Provincials provides a mentorship opportunity where you can learn from the experience of others.
For retirees, it’s an opportunity to hear wonderful and talented young musicians – some of whom will be the future stars on concert stages around the world.
For high school students looking for community service hours, it’s an opportunity to learn about Ontario’s music festivals and help promote their home city.
Overall, the greatest benefit to volunteering is being able to partake in the joy that comes from music and being part of our incredible community.
