Bands – 2023 (Virtual Festival)
Festivals may send three different bands for each level of competition.
Bands will be VIRITUAL at the 2023 Provincial Festival
One original score of the music or purchased digital music with attached receipt for each selection must be submitted digitally to mail@omfa.ca
Band Rules
General
Band classes are open to anyone who resides or studies in the Province of Ontario or the Gatineau, Quebec area and has been recommended by their local festival.
Definition
Concert Bands: A group of musicians playing brass, woodwind and percussion instruments.
Jazz Bands: A band or ensemble playing only jazz music.
All Band classes for the 2023 Festival will be virtual.
Performance Requirements and Classes of Competition for all Bands
Concert Band Classes of Competition:
Class No. 1: Elementary School Concert Band up to and including grade 8 students
Class No. 2: Secondary School Concert Band up to and including grade 10 students
Class No. 3: Secondary School Concert Band up to and including grade 12 students
Class No. 4: Community Concert Band
Jazz Band Classes of Competition:
Class No. 5: Elementary School Jazz Band up and including grade 8 students
Class No. 6: Secondary School Jazz Band up to and including grade 12 students. Vocalist Optional.
Class No. 7: Community Jazz Band
a) Competitors must perform two (2) selections, one of which was performed at the originating local festival and have received the recommendation of the local Adjudicator.
b) The second selection is the competitor’s own choice but must not be another movement from the first selection.
c) Multi-movements of one piece will be counted as one selection.
d) Selections must be musically contrasting. The Adjudicator will take choice of repertoire into consideration.
e) Only one selection may have an instrumental solo passage.
f) All performances must be submitted using a single video youtube link (one link containing both pieces).
g) Scores be submitted digitally via email to mail@omfa.ca. It must a complete original score in the correct key for all instruments in the performance.
h) The instrumentation should be indicated if different from what appears in the score.
i) All copyright laws must be observed.
j) If not already in the score, bar numbers should be placed at the beginning of each line of music in the original score.
k) It is the competitor’s responsibility to abide by any and all government guidelines regarding physical distancing as of the date you submit your video.
