Registration for the 2021 Virtual Provincial festival is now open!

IMPORTANT: Do not start the registration process until you have completed your recording and have the YouTube link needed to show your performance. The YouTube link can be either public or unlisted. Private YouTube links will not be accepted. We strongly suggest that you make sure the comments are turned off on your YouTube page.

It is the competitor’s responsibility to abide by any and all government guidelines regarding physical distancing as of the date you submit your video. Accepted accompaniment can include: Live, pre-recorded, back-tracks, etc. Accompaniment can be by piano only. The accompanists listed on our website have confirmed that they are willing to record accompaniments for you to use for your performance. It is up to the competitor, however, to contact them directly and pay for this arrangement.

REMINDERS: Please combine all performances into ONE video for uploading. However, if you are entering multiple categories (i.e. Musical Theatre and Voice), there should be one YouTube channel for each category. The competitor is required to introduce themselves and their selections in the video, either verbally or with a title card before each piece and must be limited to the following:Your Name (at the beginning only)

The Grade/Level you have entered (at the beginning only)
The Composer and Complete Title of your selection (prior to each piece)

When registering, please note that accurate times are required.

Adult

  • All entries into the Adult Classes section are non-competitive and will be for adjudicatioin only.
  • These classes are open for the following disciplines: brass, guitar, harp, upper strings, lower strings, musical theatre, speech arts, voice and woodwinds.
  • For all disciplines (excluding classical voice) two pieces must be performed.
  • For classical voice, three pieces must be performed.
  • Memorization is optional, but strongly encouraged.
  • For the purposes of this competition, Adults are defined as individuals who are 29 and older.
  • If a competitor enters the Adult Classes they may not enter the regular competitive classes as well.
  • Fees and Levels of Competition:
    • Adults – 5 years of training or less: $75.00
    • Adults – 6 to 9 years of training: $75.00
    • Adults – 10 years of training or more: $100.00

Brass

  • Two pieces must be performed at the Provincial Level:
      • Both pieces must be at the same grade level.
      • Please make sure to read the specific rules and regulations for Brass classes in the

    Syllabus.

Musical Theatre

  • Two songs must be presented.
  • Please make sure to read the specific rules and regulations for Musical Theatre classes in the Syllabus.
  • It is strongly recommended that one selection be a ballad and one selection be up-tempo. As well, the songs should be from different musicals representing different eras.
  • Selections must be from professionally staged musical theatre productions.  Musicals that have only been work-shopped are NOT permitted.
  • All songs must be performed from memory.
  • Costumes are permitted, but will not be judged.
  • If physical distancing is still mandatory as of the date you submit your video, then live accompaniment can only be with a family member or someone who lives in your residence. The accompanists listed on our website have confirmed that they are willing to record accompaniments for you to use for your performance. It is up to the competitor, however, to contact them directly and pay for this arrangement.
  • Fees: Beginner & Primary – $50; Elementary, Junior and Intermediate- $75; Senior & Advanced – $100

 

Percussion

  • Please make sure to read the specific rules and regulations for Percussion classes in the Syllabus.
  • Beginner, Primary and Elementary: Two (2) selections consisting of contrasting styles on any two (2) percussion instruments.
  • Junior: Two (2) selections consisting of contrasting styles on any two (2) percussion instruments.
  • Intermediate: Two (2) selections of contrasting styles to include work on any two of mallets, tympani or snare drum.
  • Senior and Advanced: Three selections consisting of contrasting styles to includes on any two of mallets, tympani or snare drum.
  • Memorization is optional, but strongly encouraged.
  • Fees: Beginner & Primary – $50; Elementary, Junior and Intermediate- $75; Senior & Advanced – $100

 

Piano

For all Graded Sections in Piano – Grade/Level 1 to Diploma

  • Two pieces must be performed at the Provincial Level:
      • Both pieces must be at the same grade level.

  • Competitors must also refer carefully to either the RCM or CC syllabus to determine how many and which movements of a selection are required (i.e. one mvt., two mvts., or complete)
  • For Grades/Levels 1 to 10, studies or etudes as listed in the Conservatory Canada or RCM syllabi are not permitted.
  • Selections from the RCM Popular Selection List and the CC Idioms lists are not permitted
  • Repeats are optional but not required.
  • Performances must be from memory
  • Fees: Levels 1-5 – $50; Levels 6-9 – $75; Level 10, Diploma & Open – $100

For Open Piano

  • Two pieces must be performed at the Provincial Level:
      • Both pieces must be at the ARCT level or above.
      • Please make sure to read the specific rules and regulations for Piano classes in the

  • Competitors must refer carefully to either the RCM or CC syllabus to determine how many and which movements of a selection are required (i.e. one mvt., two mvts., or complete)
  • Piano Concerti must enter in the Piano Concerto section.
  • Concert Etudes are permitted at this level
  • Performances must be from memory

 

Piano Concerto

  • Performance must be from memory

  • The competitor may choose to present three (3) or four (4) recitations.

  • Fees: Beginner & Primary – $50; Elementary, Junior and Intermediate- $75; Senior & Advanced – $100

 

Upper Strings

  • Two pieces must be performed at the Provincial Level:
      • Both pieces must be at the same grade level.

CHAMBER GROUPS

    • Two pieces of standard Chamber repertoire must be performed at the Provincial Level.
    • Chamber Groups may consist of 3-5 individual players.
    • Memorization is not required.
      Syllabus
    • It is the competitor’s responsibility to abide by any and all government guidelines regarding physical distancing as of the date you submit your video. As such, videos may be performed together or can be edited together if individual parts are recorded separately as conditions demand.
    • Fees:
      Elementary (performers playing between Levels 1-5) – $100
      Junior (performers playing between Levels 6-9) – $150
      Senior (performers playing between Levels 10, Diploma & Open) – $200

 

SMALL ENSEMBLES

    • Two pieces must be performed at the Provincial Level.
    • Small ensembles may consist of 4-10 individual players of any instrumentation and not playing “chamber” repertoire.
    • Memorization is not required.
