Dr. Christopher Miranda

The performances and achievements of Canadian pianist Christopher Miranda began at an early age, across the country. Some of these include the American Guild of Music -where he was invited to compete at the North American Age Championship at age 9, the Contemporary Showcase Competition, and the Tom Thomas Scholarship awarded by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He was also the Rose Bowl winner at both the Peel Music Festival and the Kiwanis Music Festival of Greater Toronto, first prize in the Canadian Music Competitions, Toronto Music Competition, TD Canada Trust National Competition and Toronto Symphony Piano Competitions, was awarded the Kesri Arts Award and the Emerging Performing Artist Award by the city of Mississauga, and the Professional Musician Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.

Growing up in Toronto, Christopher earned his A.R.C.T. Performer’sDiploma attaining first class honours with distinction, and is a graduate of the Young Artists Performance Academy of the Glenn Gould Professional School at the Royal Conservatory of Music, where he was a scholarship student for six years studying with the late Marina Geringas. At the University of Toronto under the tutelage of Marietta Orlov, Christopher completed his Bachelor and Master in Music Performance degrees, was awarded the W.O. Forsyth Memorial top graduating scholarship, an Advanced Certificate in Performance, and the distinguished Felix Galimir Award for excellence in Chamber Music.

Through performances for the last 25 years, Christopher has enjoyed playing the full spectrum of the great composers and styles, with a particular love for Chopin, Mozart, and the Russian master Nikolai Medtner. He also has a particular interest in the harpsichord, Indian Classical music, and is a huge Leafs fan. He continues to delight audiences today performing solo, chamber music, and with Orchestra at the Roy Thompson Hall, the Toronto Centre for the Arts, CBC Glenn Gould Studio, the Living Arts Centre, Parliament Hill in Ottawa, and with the Toronto, Indiana University and Yale Philharmonia Orchestras. He has also been heard on television and radio including CHCH, Bravo!, CBC Radio 2 and CJRT 91.1fm in Canada.

Christopher went on to earn an Artist Diploma on full scholarship from Yale University, studying with the late Claude Frank. Winning every major competition plus the audience prize at the university, he was also an Assistant Instructor of Piano at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, while earning a Doctor of Music in Performance and Literature degree on full scholarship, under the tutelage of Menahem Pressler. Christopher is an artist of the Canzona concert series in Toronto as well the pianist of the Canadian Miranda-Tong piano/violin duo. He has a large private studio at both the #1 People’s choice awarded Mississauga School of Music and Opus Alive, where his students have been yearly regional and provincial competition prize winners, laureates of international competition, and recipients of the RCM gold medal.
