Nicky McGrath

POPULAR VOICE – Beginner to Junior

Nicky McGrath (MMusS, BCI) is a vocal pedagogue specialising in contemporary commercial music and musical theatre styles. Born in Hong Kong and raised in Australia, Nicky is a queer biracial musician who has called Toronto home since mid-2020. Her teaching philosophy is equal parts joy and science, grounded in free, efficient, sustainable voice use.

In 2020 Nicky completed her Master of Music Studies (Vocal Pedagogy) at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, earning the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence. Part of her studies included exploring the developing voice, which Nicky has applied to her work with young singers and in her work supporting the development of other voice educators.

Working primarily in her private studio with healthy and injured voices, Nicky is also a voice instructor for the Musical Theatre program at Sheridan College, serves as the Dean of the Voice Performance College for Harmony University (Barbershop Harmony Society), coaches barbershop ensembles around the world, records learning tracks for a cappella groups, and founded The Singers’ Circle, an online community for passionate singers to further their voice education
