Irena Seyarto-Hernandez

MUSICAL THEATRE – Intermediate

Thirty years of studio teaching Irena has merged the precision of classical vocal training with the needs of contemporary singers and modern interests.  For the past six years she has taught at Sheridan’s Honours Bachelor of Musical Theatre Performance programme, where she teaches private vocal tutorials and has classes in Vocal Technique focusing on anatomy and classical pedagogy.   She continues to evolve her evidence base teaching with classes and workshops in Vocal Yoga, Body Mapping, Alexander Technique, Somatic Voice Work (Jeanie LoVetri) and with Mary Saunders Barton (Cross-training in the Voice Studio), private sessions with Dr. Wendy LeBorgne (The Vocal Athlete) and most recently Melissa Cross (the Zen of Screaming).  For the past 5 years she has also attended classes at The CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute held at Shenandoah University and of course on “Zoom”.

A lyric soprano who holds a MMus, Honours BMus both in Voice Performance and has studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts.  Performed to both domestic and international audiences with performances ranging from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Ariadne Auf Naxos (R. Strauss) to J. Strauss’s operetta Die Fledermaus, as well as numerous Art Song recitals.

Musical theatre performance’s main purpose is to entertain an audience by telling a story through song, acting, and dance.  When I watch a performance, I want it to include a “true” performance from one’s interpretation of the character.  Be Authentic to Yourself.
